I decided to cook healthy and only healthy, yes I remember that. But suddenly sitting in office I had this craving for soft, spongy delicious donuts. How could I say no to that!! I knew I had to make them.  I came home little early and by tea time these were ready. What a treat 🙂

So here it is. My beautiful, delicious and super soft donuts!

Ingredients
  1. 2+1/2 cups all purpose flour
  2. 1 1/2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  3. 3 tablespoon butter
  4. 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  5. 1½ cup milk
  6. 2 tablespoon milk powder
  7. ¼ teaspoon salt
  8. 1 egg
  9. Glaze
  10. ½ cup icing sugar
  11. 3 tablespoon sugar
  12. ½ teaspoon cinnamon/ Vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. In a mixing bowl add yeast, warm milk and 1/4 tablespoon of sugar. Mix rigorously till yeast looks foamy. Now add all purpose flour, butter, rest of the sugar, salt and milk powder and beaten egg.
  2. Mix everything well and knead till you get nice elastic dough. Transfer the dough in a greased pan. Spread some oil on the top of the dough. Cover with cling film and keep it in dark warm place for almost an hour or till the dough rises double of its size.
  3. When the dough has risen well, punch it down and knead again for almost 5 minutes. Dough will be elastic and smooth now.
  4. On your working surface roll the dough to almost ½ inch thickness. Cut the dough in shape of donuts. I used two bottle caps ( Bigger one for big circle and smaller one for making a hole in the circle).
  5. In a greased tray, spread some flour so that donuts don’t stick on the tray and place the shaped donuts onto it. Keep the tray again in warm place for almost 30 minutes. Donuts will again rise double of its size and are ready for frying.
  6. In a pan heat vegetable oil ( or any oil of your choice, preferably flavorless) on a medium heat. The temperature of the oil should be around 180 to 190’C.
  7. Gently place the donuts in oil and carefully fry till they are golden brown on both sides. Keep them on paper to soak any access oil.
  8. If you are adding glaze apply when donuts are still hot. I made the glaze when donuts were resting for 30 minutes.
  9. To make glaze, in a pan melt butter and add icing sugar. The mixture should be of the consistency that it sticks on donuts. I divided it in two parts. In first one I added ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract and the second one, ½ teaspoon of cinnamon powder.
  10. You can also make chocolate glaze by melting it in butter in the same way. Or super simple just cover the donuts in icing sugar. As you like it!!!
