It is getting unbearably hot out here; not my favorite type of weather. Greasy, sweaty and humid hot, something that Bangalore was saving me from. Ohh Bangalore, how much i miss you!
Anyways, I am doing everything i can to brave Mumbai summers. Post dinner ice cream has become a kind of ritual; which i have no complains about :), i am also eating a lot of kulfi and i am trying all new drinks. Along with summers come a lot of desi Indian drinks or ‘Sharbat’ as we call them. From bel (wood apple), khus (poppy seeds) to aam pana (raw mango drink), each and every one of these are refreshing relief in scorching heat.
I make drink of every fruit or even vegetable that i like be it juice, smoothie or just drinkable mushy pulp. Some are for health sake like ‘Beetroot Smoothie for Runners’ or ‘Green Smoothie‘, they taste great as well. So why not guava?? Guava is one of my favorite fruit, I don’t know why it is not much talked about or used abundantly across but I love this fruit. So here i am with my cool and refreshing guava drink.
This drink feels like smooth and creamy guava liquid cooling down from mouth to mind. It has sweet smell of guavas and you know what is in it before you even taste. We loved it so much that i made a second batch the very next day. It has got me thinking that guava cocktail will also be a very good idea..hmm i am on it!
This is easy to make drink, only work is straining off the seeds. Start with boiling the guavas. You will see, as you boil the green guavas they change color and turn yellowish, pretty fascinating!
So i boiled them good, till they got soft them mashed and strained them to get rid of the seeds. Frankly, I don’t mind seeds but not everyone may like them so better get rid of them. This can be tricky.Use a mid sized strainer and mash the guava pulp very well using a spoon or fork. Use a little water to help strain the pulp. Keep doing this till all the pulp is strained off and you are left only with the seeds. you can throw away the seeds.
Now the secret ingredients of this drink! and these would be ginger and black or rock salt; yes ginger and rock salt add the punch to this drink. Along with these two, little sugar, dash of lemon and ice cubes, viola your drink is done. Add some mint also if you like!
You enjoy this cooling drink while i am making guava cocktail!
